Taylor University Commencement

August 15, 2020, 8:00 a.m., Reade Quad, east of Bell Tower. In case of heavy rains and/or lightning, a rain delay or cancellation may take place.

COVID-19 Precautions

Protocols required and approved by Indiana and Grant County health officials require the following:

  • Wearing of masks (not provided by Taylor University)
  • Social distancing – six feet between individuals and family groups
  • Temperature checks at entrance gates
  • For those unable or unwilling to comply, Commencement may be viewed online live – see below.
  • No campus buildings will be open to guests in preparation for incoming students.

Student Information

Caps & Gowns

Caps and gowns, along with tassels and honors regalia, will be available for pickup at Boren Campus Center on Friday, August 14, 12:30-4:30 p.m. – drive-through ONLY. For those unable to be on campus on Friday, additional pickup will be available on Saturday, August 15, 6:30 a.m. at Turner Stadium prior to line-up.

Honors regalia, for those who qualify, will be in your packet. Commencement honors and regalia are determined based on your cumulative grade point average (GPA) following spring 2020 grades. Please note that degree transcript/diploma honors is based on your cumulative GPA at time of degree conferral.

Senior Dinner, Senior Program, and Ritz on the Roof

All Friday events have been cancelled. Senior Dinner tickets will be refunded for those with reservations.

In Absentia

Students planning to complete a degree between December 2019 through Summer 2020 are expected to participate in the Commencement ceremony (unless s/he has already participated in Commencement for that degree or other circumstances preclude attendance). All graduates planning to attend Commencement should have pre-registered. If you find you are unable to attend, email parents@taylor.edu immediately. All changes due by Monday, August 3, 8:00 a.m. This information is critical for the line-of-march and whether or not your regalia, Bible, towel, and diploma cover are mailed to you.

Guest Information


Reade Quad seating will be available beginning at 6:30 a.m. Required temperature checks may delay entry. Portable toilets and handwashing stations will be available on campus in proximity to parking and the event venue. No campus buildings will be accessible for restroom usage.


Tickets are not required for entry into the Reade Quad. There will be ample seating for all graduates and their guests, adhering to social distancing requirements.

Handicapped Assistance

Handicapped Parking

Parking for those with special needs will be available in the north parking lot adjacent to the Reade Center until 7:30 a.m. The vehicle must display either a license plate or hang tag indicating disability. Questions regarding parking should be directed to Campus Police at 765-998-5395.

Handicapped Seating

See ushers for seating. Chairs will be removed to accommodate wheelchairs throughout the venue.


Parking is available in all campus parking lots. Due to protocols, no shuttle service will be available for guests. Parking lots are located in fairly close proximity to the venue.


A professional photograph will be taken of each graduate as he/she receives their diploma from the President, and will be provided digitally by the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations to the graduate’s Taylor University email address at no charge. Due to health protocols and distancing, there will not be an area designated for photography by guests near the platform. For guest safety, no tripods may be set up in aisles, doorways or walkways and guests are asked to stay in their seats throughout the duration of the event.


Expect the ceremony to last approximately 2 hours from the processional until the end of the recessional.

Campus Store/Flowers

For the convenience of graduates and guests, the Campus Store will operate a pop-up store near the Reade Quad (or inside Kesler Student Activities Center) an hour prior to and an hour after the Commencement ceremony. The Campus Store facility in the Bishop's Nook on Reade Avenue will be open throughout the duration of the day of Commencement for the sale of University items, diploma frames and other gifts. Questions regarding the Campus Store should be directed to Caitlin Bragg at 765-998-5219. A large and beautiful selection of fresh floral bouquets will be available to browse and purchase on the day of Commencement.
